Creativity continues to bloom in Victor Harbor, as 20 community members from the Fleurieu joined forces with music professionals Jen de Ness and Bill Atkinson to create a home-grown experience that they are eager to share.
The Rise 'N' Shine project, directed by accomplished singer/songwriter/performer/teacher and choir director Jen de Ness, brought community members together to learn Jen's original song and gain singing, performing and team building skills.
This came at a time when the joy of community and music has never been more important.
The project includes a professional recording by Ocean Studios' Recording Engineer/Musician (Ex-ABC Music Producer), Bill Atkinson. The result is both uplifting and beautiful.
The group met for a number of weeks, under Jen's direction, navigating the challenges of COVID 19 safe practices, to hone their vocal and pre-performance skills, while developing confidence, courage and camaraderie for group recording/performance.
Participants loved the whole journey from workshops to recording space, saying they "greatly valued the professional instruction" and "highly skilled leadership" making it "an entirely uplifting experience in every way" learning "skills and techniques to get more out of our voices".
People commented that it was made even more special because of the original song written about our much loved local area", with the "Masked Singers" feeling "privileged to be part of this unique and fun experience during difficult COVID times" with the "technical expertise" of Bill Atkinson making the "process and techniques used in the recording most interesting".
